About the BSDE Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria for BSDE, Inc. Scholarship

​

Purpose - The BSDE Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to high school seniors who are continuing their education by attending college or a trade schools.

 

Criteria - The students eligible for assistance must meet 1 or more of the following criteria:

 

(1) Be a graduating high school senior who attended Hopewell Elementary School (Collins, Mississippi) for any 2 of the 6  grades OR  (2) Be a graduating high school senior who attends high school in Covington County, Mississippi and intend to continue their education at a four-year College or University, Community or Junior college, or a Vocational school OR (3)  Be a graduating high school senior who attends high school in the United States and intend to continue their education at a four-year College or University, Community or Junior college, or a Vocational school.  Students should submit a scholarship application in the format described by the BSDE Scholarship Fund. Winners will be required to sign a consent of release for their name and photo to be used for advertising or obtaining scholarship funding.

Guidelines -  Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and disbursed in  equal payments in September and February. The BSDE Scholarship Fund  must be able to verify enrollment and students must continue to attend classes. Recipients must sign a release of information for the school.

Amount -  Each scholarship awarded will be a minimum of $500 annually to be paid in two equal installments.  The number of scholarships vary.  Funds will be distributed in September and February.  The board may award stipends at their discretion of any amount (up to the scholarship amount) based on majority vote.

 

Use of Funds - Scholarship awards may be applied toward tuition, books, fees, or other costs directly related to college or  vocational study.

 

Deadline - The application deadline is April 21, 2024. The deadline is the date after which applications will no longer be accepted. *BSDE Scholarship committee will not accept US postal mailed or faxed applications.

Renewal - This scholarship is not renewable. Only high school seniors  planning to attend a four-year college or university, community or junior  college, or a vocational school and meet the criteria are eligible to apply.  Previous scholarship recipients cannot re-apply.

Basis of Award – The Scholarship Committee, comprised of officers, members, and members of the community will make the final selection of student(s) to receive a scholarship based on their review of the application form and two letters. The first letter will be a letter of recommendation from a school teacher, principal, coach, etc. or community or area mentor; the second letter will come from the student. The scholarship(s) will be awarded primarily based on of the essay score and your personal letter which should include educational plans and career goals.

 

How To Apply – The Scholarship Committee requests 1) documented proof of school enrollment or plans to enroll of each student submitting an application 2) Essay answering one of the questions provided below [Min. pages 5 & max 10] 3) letter of recommendation from a school teacher, principal, coach, etc. or community or area mentor and 4) A personal letter from the student which must include your educational and career plans and 5) A cover page that includes, full name, address, telephone number, email, date of birth, gender, race (optional), high school, date of graduation, name of school you plan to attend and intended area of study.  The Committee may request additional information to complete its evaluation.

 

Please choose one of the following topics for your essay.  Essay should be 12 font, Times New Roman, double spaced and saved in a pdf.  The cover page should be included with the essay. This essay should include 1- single pdf and should be attached to the email and sent to bsdeinc@gmail.com

  1.  Discuss your view on any current event in the world (e.g., war, recession) and how you would fix it or make improvements.

  2. Why do you think you should be selected to receive this scholarship award?

A total of 4 attachments should be emailed to bsdeinc@gmail.com.

  • Documented proof of school you plan to attend (acceptance letter)

  • Cover Letter & Essay (must be saved in pdf)

  • Letter of Recommendation

  • Personal Letter

ONLY Electronic copies of the application will be accepted and must be submitted to: BSDE, Inc. at the following email bsdeinc@gmail.com  The application package must be e-mailed on or before April 21, 2024 @ 11:59 PM CST. Prior to the submitting the application, students, teachers, or sponsors may submit questions via e-mail to bsdeinc@gmail.com
