BSDE, Inc. Scholarship Criteria

Purpose
The BSDE Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to high school seniors pursuing higher education at a college, university, or trade school.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Be a graduating high school senior who attended Hopewell Elementary School (Collins, MS) for at least two years (students who meet this requirement but attend high school outside the U.S. may still be considered).

Be a graduating high school senior in the United States, planning to attend a four-year college, community college, or vocational school.
Applicants must submit a complete scholarship application as outlined by the BSDE Scholarship Fund. Selected recipients must sign a consent form allowing the use of their name and photo for promotional and funding purposes.
Scholarship Guidelines

Scholarships are awarded annually and disbursed in two equal payments (September & February).

Enrollment verification is required, and recipients must remain enrolled.

Recipients must sign a release of information form for their school.
Award Amount

Each scholarship provides a minimum of $500 per year, distributed in two equal payments.

The number of scholarships varies.

The board may grant additional stipends (up to the scholarship amount) based on a majority vote.
Use of Funds
Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, or other education-related expenses.

How to Apply
​Basis of Award
The Scholarship Committee, consisting of officers, members, and community representatives, will select recipients based on the application form, an essay, and two letters. One letter must be a recommendation from a teacher, principal, coach, or mentor, and the other must be a personal letter from the student. Scholarships will be awarded primarily based on the essay score and the student's personal letter outlining educational and career goals.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit the following:

Proof of school enrollment or acceptance.

A 5–10 page essay answering one of the provided questions (12pt, Times New Roman, double-spaced, PDF format).

A letter of recommendation from a teacher, principal, coach, or mentor.

A personal letter outlining educational and career goals.

A cover page including full name, address, phone number, email, date of birth, gender, race (optional), high school and graduation date, intended college/school, and area of study.
All documents should be submitted as four separate attachments via email to bsdeinc@gmail.com in PDF format.
Essay Topics (Choose one)

Leadership & Community Impact: Describe a time you made a positive impact in your school or community. What challenges did you face, and what was the outcome?

Current Events & Civic Awareness: Discuss a key policy or initiative from the current U.S. president’s administration. How has it impacted your community or the country? Do you agree or disagree with its approach? Why?
All required documents must be submitted as one email with four separate PDF attachments to bsdeinc@gmail.com.
